On April 6th, 2017 -- Kira Harding and Phillip Hurley presented their work on the long-term benefits of study abroad at the Undergraduate Research and Arts Colloquium. Kira and Phillip worked with Dr. Nicole Tracy-Ventura as part of a year-long research mentorship through the Office of Undergraduate Research. Excellent work Kira and Phillip!

Students from the LIN 4721 CREATTE class also presented their work on the perception of second language fluency at the Undergraduate Research and Arts Colloquium. They worked with Dr. Huensch and Addie Sayers-China on this project. Congrats Javier Benitez, Ennis Cruz Gonzalez, Ivan Herenchak-Jones, Chelsea Lo, Kara Marin, Daniel Sarmiento, Tyler Sponder, and Patricia Claire Tate!

November 12, 2015 -- Public Lecture by Dr. Rosamond Mitchell (University of Southampton, UK)
The Department of World Languages was pleased to welcome Dr. Mitchell, who presented "Multilingualism in Study Abroad: Language Practices and Communities". She discussed how tradtional views of study abroad as a mono-cultural 'immersion' experience are outdated, arguing for a reconceptualization of study abroad as a multilingual arena with its own distinctive hybrid cultural practices.

February 28, 2015 -- Applied Linguistics Faculty in the Community!

On Saturday, February 28, 2015 Dr. Nicole Tracy-Ventura, Dr. Camilla Vásquez and Dr. Amanda Huensch served as volunteer judges at the annual Pinellas County Schools World Languages International Day, held at Meadowlawn Middle School in St. Petersburg. The event celebrates local students who elect to study foreign languages at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.
