As an instructor in World Languages I teach undergraduate courses in Spanish at all levels, including advanced courses in expository writing, introduction to Spanish linguistics, history of the Spanish language, and introduction to Spanish translation. In December 2008 I completed the Ph.D. in Romance Linguistics at the University of Florida. My dissertation, The persistence of the Latin accent in the nominal system of Castilian, Catalan, and Portuguese, applies optimality theory to diachronic linguistics. I have research interests in phonology and prosody of the Romance languages of the Iberian peninsula, globalization/localization issues in language, and languages in contact.
