Bio

Anne Latowsky specializes in Medieval French literature and Latin historiography. She is the author of Emperor of the World: Charlemagne and the Construction of Imperial Authority, 800-1229 (Cornell University Press, 2013), a project which was supported by a 2009-2010 Faculty Research Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 2007, her article "Foreign Embassies and Roman Universality in Einhard's Life of Charlemagne," was awarded the Van Courtlandt Elliott Prize from the Medieval Academy of America for outstanding first article in the field of medieval studies. Professor Latowsky’s course offerings include Medieval French literature, Old French, French Linguistics, French Phonetics, Introduction to French Drama and Poetry, Readings in French Literature and Culture, French Civilization, Contemporary France, and French for Reading. She is also the director of the French MA program and serves as the faculty advisor for study abroad in France.
