Permit Request Form

For Undergraduate Student Courses Only

NOT FOR ONLINE COURSES

There are 3 sections. First complete the student information section. Second, check the boxes for the courses for which you are requesting a permit. Finally go to the bottom of the form to finish and submit.

Students who studied a foreign language in high school, or who have postsecondary course(s) in foreign language, or who have experiential learning of a foreign language may not enroll in courses in that language without first taking a placement examination administered by the Department of World Languages. There are no exceptions to this policy. Under no circumstances will a student who places above the first year level or who passes a higher-level course be allowed to register for or receive credit for a lower-level course in that specific language. Students to whom this regulation applies should inquire with the Department of World Languages about the placement examination.

  • Permits allow the student to register for the course (if open). Permits do not register the student — it is the student's responsibility to register for desired courses after receiving the permit. A permit does not obligate the student to take the course.
  • Most requests for permits will receive an e-mail; however, students should use OASIS as their confirmation — the permit will appear on OASIS.
  • Requests will be processed within 2 working days, except during high-volume times. High volume times include: the week prior to school starting, the first two weeks of school, and the first month of registration. Requests for permits are NOT processed after hours or on weekends.
  • Permits do not guarantee a seat in the course.
  • Errors can occur on OASIS. The Department of World Languages is not responsible for activity on OASIS.
  • Students with courses taken at another institution (cross-enrollment or transient) MUST provide documentation of successful completion by the week after finals or permit will be revoked. If documentation is provided after due date, student will be given a new permit; however, the seat in the class will not be held for the student.

Selection of this box is REQUIRED for receiving a permit. By selecting this box you are requesting a permit for an IN-PERSON section of a language course and confirm your understanding of the Languages Department’s course permit process and regulations.

I will be attaching documentation of completion of pre-requisites to this form, if the courses were taken at another institution.

Please see the World Languages web site academic course page for more information regarding Languages course descriptions.

Please complete if you have additional comments about your permit request.
